Ok ladies let’s face it, when it comes to the underneath bits of your dress, choose wisely. It’s easy to get all too excited when you’ve finally found “the one” (wedding dress that is) and then forget about the supporting cast! This can easily make or break the outfit, and the day for that matter. It’s important to have the correct style for your dress and fit for you.
I had a lovely chat with Atsuko from one of our favorite lingerie boutiques “Scarlet Lingerie Boutique” in downtown Vancouver and she had a couple of great tips:
-Do not leave it to the last minute, or week for that matter. Atsuko says she all too often sees the bra purchase in particular being one of the details that gets put aside. This can put you in a position of getting something that does not fit correctly.
-Be realistic! Don’t expect to get a slimmer, shaper etc. that doubles as a sexy lingerie piece later on. Just purchase the two sets seperately, as they each have very different purposes!
- For a strapless gown depending on the neckline and your body shape, you will have a number of options. For the small-busted, you should be able to get away without a bra; just have your seamstress sew bust cups into the bodice of the gown to give you shape and definition. You may even choose to enhance what nature gave you and choose a padded strapless bra. A bustier may be needed instead of a strapless bra because of a dip in the back of the dress. Just keep in mind when it comes to the pretty bustiers, they may only work under gowns with heavily embellished bodices.
If a bustier is not an option, either because the fabric is sheer or the back is too low a great option is to go with a high quality stick-on bra.
Now if you have a full skirted gown selecting an undergarment for the lower half is a little less involved. The best tip I can recommend if you are wearing a thong be sure to do a test drive before the big day. Some petticoats can be extremely uncomfortable against your bare bum. A good solution; wear boyshorts over the th0ng. From there, you are free to wear the panties of your choice.
It’s a good idea to bring along at least two options for your first bridal gown fitting. The attendant and/or seamstress at the bridal shop should be more than happy to help you find the ideal undergarments to make your wedding dress look perfect.
Happy shopping ladies,
and have fun!
